| What: | Ozark Rivers Audubon is encouraging people to count birds on International Migratory Bird Day – in their back yards, local parks, along county roads, on their farms, in conservation areas – or wherever in Phelps County you happen to be on Saturday, May 10. The count goes from midnight to midnight and you can count for 1 hour or all 24 hours. All birds counted must be in Phelps County. | What: | A team of federal mitigation experts will be at home supply stores in Cape Girardeau, Springfield, and St. Robert through Sunday. The State Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency in partnership with local home supply stores are offering these outreach teams to assist people with mitigation and disaster assistance information following flooding in mid March. In Scott County, they will be located at Lowe's Home Improvement Center 1240 South Main St in Sikeston. In Greene County the teams will be at Home Depot 2104 E. Independence St in Springfield. | What: | Missouri Junior 50’s Art Competition will be offered for the first time this year at the Missouri State Fair. Entries in the youth competition will be juried down to 50 pieces which will then be judged by Sedalia’s Daum Museum Director Thomas Pische. Four pieces will receive a $100 cash award with all 50 on display for public viewing for the duration of the fair August 7 to 17. The fee to enter up to two pieces of work in the junior division is $5, and entries can be dropped off at the Fine Arts Building on the fairgrounds on May 17 and July 26 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on both dates. | What: | Students between the ages of 12 and 14 can take a behind-the-scenes look at robots during a camp held this summer at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Robotics camp will be held June 12-14 and July 29-31 on the Missouri S&T campus. Students attending Robotics Camp can choose to live on the Missouri S&T campus during the three-day program, or commute to campus. The cost of Robotics Camp is $385 for students residing on campus and $335 for students who choose to commute. | What: | The CENTRE will host their summer activity camp, Fun Fest 2008, for 6 – 12 year olds weekly, Monday, June 2nd through Friday, August 1st. Each week will feature a different theme like Circus, Circus or Wild, Wild West. Parents have the option of a morning session (8:00 AM – Noon) only, an afternoon session (1:00 – 5:00 PM) only or kids can stay all day. You can sign up for individual weeks or for all nine. Parents will be able to drop off beginning at 7:30 am and pick up as late as 5:30 pm. There will be a supervised lunch hour, but participants are responsible for bringing their own meals. The fee for Fun Fest is $45 per week for half-day registrations, with a $5 discount for CENTRE members. The fee is $85 per week for all day registration, with CENTRE members receiving a $10 discount. Each additional child from the same family is only $30 per week for half-day, or $60 per week for all day. |

| What: | Applications are now available for bicyclists to "Ride West" on the eighth annual Katy Trail Ride. This year's weeklong bicycle ride on Katy Trail State Park will take place June 16 through June 20. This 225-mile, scenic bicycle ride will go from St. Charles to Clinton plus an additional three-mile ride into Hermann. Daily mileage ranges from 35 to 65 miles. Participation is limited to 300 people, and the deadline for registration is June 2. The registration fee includes breakfast and dinner daily, outdoor camping spaces each night, portable hot showers, gear shuttle, sag support and a Katy Trail Ride t-shirt and water bottle. Evening activities and daily trivia questions will highlight this scenic five-day ride. |
